How Technology is helping with Communication Barrier in the health care setting

Technology is helping when it comes to overcoming communication barriers in health care. Due to the current shortages we are experiencing in the health care profession, patients are unable to receive efficient and timely diagnosis. Technology is helping in these communication barriers by developing different programs. For example, the Ontario government has initiated a program called Wait List Ontario, in which a list of patients needing a diagnostic test all across the province has been populated. The patient can figure out which diagnostic facility has less people on their list and opt to use their service instead of having to wait and to find out what is wrong with them. This helps for an earlier diagnosis and also offers a ‘peace of mind’ for the client.

Nursing Opportunities at Texas Health Resources

Texas-The Lone Star State

I have always wanted to know what it would be like to go to the United States and practice nursing. After all, is it not the place to be if you are an RN? As a Canadian, we have always heard of the 'brain drain'--people studying in Canada and when they finished, they end up acquiring a job in the states. Why not? They are dying for nurses (not as though we are not here), but they pay more money and they offer all kinds of incentives. As well, I think that there are more full-time, nursing job opportunities in the states.

I chose Texas because I have heard that the cost of living there is very low. Let us face it, the reason why we get educated is because we would like to acquire a position where we do not have to work anymore than one job to make ends meet. I want job satisfaction plus enough income to provide for my family without being taxed to death. Could that be Texas?

Australia Tourism

Exploring Australia

After carefully examining the culture and nursing practices in the Middle East, I thought it would be different to visit a country 'down under'. This time the choice to practice nursing in Australia would be for its rugged beauty, favourable climate and aquamarine beaches.

The most wonderful thing about the nursing profession is the ability to choose where in the world we would like to practice. With the shortage of nurses all across the board, the possibilities are endless.

Although I still have a few more years left before I finish my degree, I cannot help but contemplate areas where I would like to practice nursing.

Nursing in Saudi Arabia

I have always wondered what it would be like to nurse in Saudi Arabia. You often hear people boast with regards to how much money you can make working for a royal family. I found this posting from allnurses.com regarding the pros and cons of working in Saudi Arabia. It is a very interesting article, very thorough and it is from a nurse's perspective. Here is the link to the article, http://www.allnurses.com/forums/f300/saudi-arabia-good-idea-not-275983.html.

Being a student, you try to consider every possibility and explore various options with regards to employment. However, being able to balance your needs with your wants is a very important consideration. Sometimes we get caught up with the thought of making lots of money, but if we are miserable with what we are doing, it is not really worth it.

Blogging and Me

I wondered how people got along without the Internet in the old times. It seems to me every time you turn around there is something new and different. I remembered when my son wanted to subscribe with MSN so he can chat with his friends. All I can think of was that he will end up attracting people that are of questionable character. Now, another form of chat line has emerged. Although blogging is a much more sophisticated way of communicating with others, it is still in essence a chat line. Blogging is a form of expressing yourself and receiving opinions from others who has the same interest. I guess in order to keep up with the technology, various forms of communication must be considered.

I hope to use this opportunity to discuss topics that interest me and also get acquainted with others who share the same interest.

I would like to explore the views and perception of various countries regarding nurses and how their roles affects the culture and society.
